Tempe, Arizona
Tempe is dense, young and constantly turning over. Between ASU, the Town Lake corporate campuses and the small-business scene around Mill Avenue, onboarding and offboarding people cleanly is half the job. We make that routine instead of risky.
Overview
Most cities have staff churn. Tempe has it on an academic calendar, and it changes what good IT looks like here.
Tempe packs an unusual amount into a small footprint. ASU's Tempe campus anchors the city and feeds it: student workers, interns, graduate hires and a steady stream of founders who spin out companies. Along Tempe Town Lake and Rio Salado Parkway sit corporate campuses and office towers. Papago Park Center and the ASU Research Park at the south end add technology, engineering and professional firms. Mill Avenue and the surrounding blocks are dense with restaurants, bars, salons, agencies, coworking and independent retail, and Tempe Marketplace adds another retail cluster to the east.
The single most consistent operational problem we see in Tempe is turnover. Part-time student staff, seasonal hospitality workers, interns and contractors cycle through constantly. Every one of them gets an account, a mailbox, access to files and often a device. In too many Tempe businesses, nobody removes any of that when they leave. We routinely find active accounts belonging to people who left two years ago, shared logins that half a dozen former employees still know, and files sitting on a personal cloud account nobody controls.
The fix is process, not products. Identity centralized in Entra ID with MFA on everything. Device management so a laptop can be enrolled, configured and encrypted without a technician touching it. Documented onboarding and offboarding checklists that we run, so a new starter has mail, files, software and access on their first morning and a leaver is fully cut off within the hour. Shared accounts eliminated. Files in managed storage rather than someone's personal Drive. It is unglamorous work and it removes a genuine class of business risk.
Beyond identity and churn, the mix here leans toward startups, hospitality and shared or older buildings.
Tempe is typically a fifteen to twenty-five minute run from our Gilbert office via the US 60 or the Loop 101, so it is comfortably inside our routine onsite area. Local detail lives on the Tempe microsite.

How It Works
A name, a role and a start date. That is all we need. No ticket forms, no lead time games, no scrambling on the morning.
Account, mailbox, licenses, group membership, file access, software and a configured, encrypted device. Ready before they sit down.
Same channel, same simplicity. Ideally in advance, but we handle same-day departures too because those are the ones that matter.
Sessions revoked, password reset, MFA methods removed, mailbox converted or delegated, device wiped or reassigned, and access documented as closed.
We will audit your accounts, groups and shared logins and show you exactly who can reach what today.

Why Orca
Tempe is full of vendors chasing venture-funded logos. We are more interested in the businesses that have to make payroll from revenue.
Pod Care is per user, so a team that goes from eight to twenty-two over a summer is a number change, not a renegotiation.
Your pod knows your stack and your quirks. New starters get help from people who already understand the environment they joined.
No offshore night shift, no dispatch network. Every person you deal with works for Orca and is accountable to you.
We will tell you what a twelve-person company genuinely needs and what is enterprise theater you can skip for now.
No long-term contract required, you own your hardware and licenses, and your documentation is yours to take.
A new hire whose mail will not sync is a real problem on their first day. It gets attention, not a queue position.
Onsite vs Remote
Tempe is close and easy to reach, but the honest answer is that most of what you will need does not require a visit at all.
Onboarding, offboarding, account problems, mail flow, software failures, malware, licensing, policy changes and most application faults are handled through remote support, typically starting within the hour on a business day. That is particularly valuable in Tempe because so many staff are part-time or working odd hours, and waiting for a technician to be free is not compatible with a shift that ends at three.
Onsite comes into play for the physical: cabling in older Mill Avenue and downtown buildings where wiring has been added a layer at a time, wireless surveys in spaces with heavy interference from neighboring venues, switch and firewall replacement, point-of-sale installs, and moves. Tempe office turnover is high, so we do a lot of move work, and it goes far better when we are involved before the lease is signed rather than the week of the truck.
There is one Tempe-specific wrinkle worth flagging: shared and coworking spaces. If your business operates from a suite inside a larger building or a coworking floor, you cannot treat the building network as trusted. We set those clients up with their own firewall or a properly configured secure tunnel, encrypted devices, and DNS and traffic controls that do not depend on somebody else's equipment being configured well.
Plenty of Tempe businesses have people or premises spread across Phoenix, Scottsdale, Chandler and Mesa, and remote staff in other states. All of that is covered by one plan and one team, with nationwide remote IT support for anyone outside Arizona.
Enterprise buyers and investors ask about MFA, endpoint protection, backups, access control and offboarding. Getting those in place early is far cheaper than fixing them under a deadline during diligence.
Usually fifteen to twenty-five minutes from our Gilbert base via the US 60 or the Loop 101, so Tempe is well inside our routine onsite area. Scheduled work is easy to book same or next business day, and anything genuinely down gets prioritized after we have tried to resolve it remotely first.
Yes, and it is one of the things we are set up for in this city. You tell us who is starting and who is leaving, and we handle the account, license, access and device work at both ends. The offboarding side is the part most businesses neglect, and it is the part that creates real risk.
We revoke active sessions, reset the password, remove MFA methods, and then either convert the mailbox to a shared one or delegate access to a manager so nothing is lost. Files in managed storage stay where they are with ownership reassigned. The device is wiped and reissued or retired, and the whole closure is documented.
Usually it is exactly the right time, because you are still small enough to fix the foundations cheaply. Getting identity, device management, storage and backup right at ten people costs a fraction of retrofitting it at forty, and it removes the security questions that stall your first enterprise deal.
It changes quite a bit. You cannot assume the building network is secure or well configured, and other tenants share it. We put your traffic behind your own firewall or a properly configured tunnel, enforce device encryption, and make sure your data is not reachable from the shared network.
Yes, fully. Tempe's agencies, startups and creative teams are frequently Mac-heavy or mixed, and we manage both under one estate: enrollment, updates, FileVault encryption, EDR, Microsoft 365 integration and hardware repair including Apple silicon machines.
Yes, and it is a genuinely difficult environment. Dozens of neighboring networks, dense crowds, patios and multi-level layouts all fight against a single router. We survey the space under real conditions, place and mount proper access points, tune channels against the actual interference present, and keep the point-of-sale network separate from guests.
No. Pod Care is flat monthly per-user pricing with no long-term contract required. You own your hardware and licenses and your documentation stays yours. We would rather earn the relationship every month than rely on a termination clause.
