A Swift is an aluminium shell wrapped around a battery and a board with almost no spare room inside. Every repair decision follows from that.
Thin metal chassis behave differently from plastic ones. They do not crack at the hinge the way a budget laptop does, but they take permanent bends. A Swift carried loose in a bag under a stack of books comes back with a lid that will not close flush, or a base with a slight twist that makes the trackpad click unevenly on one side. Aluminium can be worked back in some cases and cannot in others, and we are honest about which one you have brought us before we start.
Swift models solder their memory to the mainboard. Whatever the machine shipped with is what it has for life, and no amount of money changes that. That single fact drives most of the advice we give on this line, because a Swift that feels short of memory is not a machine you upgrade out of. It is one you either accept or replace.
Storage is the better news. Most Swift configurations use a removable drive, so a failing or full drive is a real repair rather than a dead end. An SSD upgrade on an otherwise healthy Swift is one of the few improvements this chassis allows, and it is worth doing.
The pack in a Swift is bonded to the chassis with adhesive strips rather than screwed into a tray. Removing one is a slow, patient job with the right solvent and the right tools, and it is where thin laptops get damaged by people in a hurry. A pack that has begun to swell pushes directly on the trackpad and the base plate, so the first symptom is usually a trackpad that has stopped clicking or a lid that will not stay shut.
We do not rush that work and we never refit a pack that has swollen. If your Swift is rocking on the desk or the trackpad has gone stiff, stop charging it and bring it in. Battery replacement on this line is routine when it is done properly and messy when it is not.
Current Swift models charge over USB-C, and that port takes every insertion for power, display and data. Worn contacts, a bent shell or pocket debris packed into the connector all produce the same complaint: it charges sometimes, or only with the cable held a certain way. Ports are replaceable. The charge circuit behind them sometimes is not, and telling the two apart is the first thing we do.
We also see machines written off as dead that are simply not negotiating power. The battery has gone flat enough that the machine will not wake, the charger is fine, and the controller has stopped asking for current. That is a diagnosis rather than a guess, and it is worth confirming before anyone buys a replacement laptop.
On a Swift the memory it ships with is the memory it will always have. We check and report the installed amount on any machine that comes in for other work, because it is the number that decides how long the laptop stays pleasant to use.
Common Swift Repairs
Thin chassis jobs, in the order they tend to arrive.
Slow, careful removal of glued cells, proper disposal of swollen packs and a correct reseat so the base sits flat and the trackpad clicks again.
Damaged or worn ports replaced, with charge negotiation faults separated from physical port faults before any part is ordered.
Cracked and pressure-marked screens, backlight failure and touch layers. On bonded assemblies we quote the full lid so there is no surprise halfway through.
Dead keys, sticky keys and liquid exposure. On this line the keyboard is part of the upper assembly, which changes the price, and we say that before you approve anything.
Failing or undersized drives swapped and cloned, with Windows, licences and files carried across intact rather than rebuilt from scratch.
One small fan does all the cooling here. Dust and dried compound show up as a machine that runs warm, sounds busy and is slower than it used to be.
Bent lids, twisted bases and hinges that no longer hold position, corrected where the metal allows and reported honestly where it does not.

Repair or Replace
On a Swift the question is rarely the price of the part. It is whether the machine has anywhere left to go.
A Swift with a capable processor, enough memory for what you actually do and a straight chassis is worth keeping. Batteries, drives, keyboards and ports are all repairable, and the aluminium body outlasts the plastic ones by years. Machines like that come back from a battery and drive service feeling close to new, for a fraction of what a replacement costs.
The argument changes when memory is the limit or the lid assembly has failed. Neither is repairable in the ordinary sense: one cannot be changed at all, and the other is a large part on a small machine. Your files are handled before any of that happens. We image a readable drive before opening the chassis, and where the board has failed the drive normally comes out and reads perfectly well in another machine. Where the drive itself is the fault, data recovery comes first and the repair decision waits until we know what survived.
Yes. Thin-and-light designs solder memory directly to the mainboard to save height, and the Swift is one of them. There is no socket to add to and no module to swap. It is the main reason we ask what you run on the machine before advising on any other upgrade, because storage and battery work will not fix a memory ceiling.
In most cases it is the battery underneath swelling and pressing up against the trackpad assembly. It often comes with a base that no longer sits flat. Stop charging the machine and bring it in, because a swollen pack is a genuine hazard. Once the old pack is out and a new one is fitted, the trackpad usually returns to normal.
Usually, yes. We first check whether the fault is the connector itself or the charge circuit behind it, because they feel identical from the outside. A worn or damaged USB-C port is a repair we do regularly. If the controller behind it has failed, that is a board-level job and we will tell you what it involves before you commit.
It depends on the configuration. A conventional non-touch panel can often be replaced on its own, which keeps the cost sensible. Touch models bond the glass digitiser to the panel, so the whole assembly has to be replaced together. We identify which one you have from the model before quoting, because the two prices are not close.
Normally a full strip, clean and repaste. There is one small fan and a short fin stack doing all the work in this chassis, and once dust packs the fins the processor drops its clocks to protect itself. Dried thermal compound has the same effect with a clean heatsink. We measure sustained clocks before and after so you can see whether it worked.
If the machine still does what you need and the chassis is straight, yes. A battery is the part most likely to make an older thin laptop feel finished when the rest of it is fine. We check cycle count and full charge capacity first, so you are replacing a pack that has genuinely worn rather than one that has simply lost calibration.
