An AERO is bought for one reason: the screen and the render times have to be trusted. That changes what a repair has to achieve. Fitting a panel that lights up is not the same as returning a machine you can grade on, and a machine that finishes a render is not the same as one that finishes it at full speed.

Gaming laptops are judged on frame rates. Creator laptops are judged on whether the colour is right and whether the render finished on time. Repairs have to be measured the same way.
AERO machines shipped with factory panel calibration, and that is the feature people buy them for. It also means display work is not a straight swap. A replacement panel is a different physical unit with its own behaviour, and the profile that shipped with the machine no longer describes what is in front of you. So when we replace a panel on a machine used for colour work, we say plainly that the factory profile no longer applies and the display needs profiling again with a hardware colorimeter before it can be trusted. That is a different conversation from an ordinary screen replacement and it belongs before the part is ordered, not after.
Before condemning a display we rule out the cheaper causes, because most of them are software. Two colour profiles fighting each other, a profile that fails to load at sign-in, a vendor utility applying its own adjustment on top of the operating system, a driver update that reset the output range, or an external display connected through a dock that alters the signal. Each produces a screen that looks wrong, and none of them is a hardware fault.
Where the panel genuinely has failed, the symptoms are different: a cast that does not move regardless of profile, uneven backlight, a section of the panel that has shifted, or banding that was not there last month. We look at the machine with a test pattern set before anything is touched.
Creator work is a long flat load rather than a series of spikes. A photo edit is a burst. An export, a render or a compile is twenty minutes at full tilt, and that is where a slim creator chassis shows its condition. The complaint is rarely a crash. It is that a job which used to take a known amount of time now takes noticeably longer and nothing obvious has changed.
We measure sustained clocks over a long run rather than a short benchmark, because a machine with a blocked fin stack or dried compound looks perfectly healthy for the first two minutes. Cleaning, repasting and replacing worn thermal pads restores it. If the numbers do not move afterwards, the problem is somewhere else and we keep looking instead of charging you for a guess.
Creators fill drives in a way nobody else does. A full boot drive on a creator laptop is not just untidy: it slows caching, breaks scratch behaviour in editing applications and eventually stops jobs completing at all. Most AERO configurations have more than one drive slot, which makes separating the system drive from the working drive straightforward.
We do that as an SSD upgrade with the project structure left intact, rather than handing back a tidy machine you then have to spend a day relinking. Media applications reference files by path, so where a file sits matters as much as whether it exists.
The calibration a creator laptop shipped with describes the panel it shipped with. Fit a new one and that profile is no longer accurate. We tell you this before the part is ordered so the full cost of the repair is visible up front.

Capacity, catalogue location and memory pressure. Moving the library off the boot drive usually fixes more than a faster processor would.

Repair or Replace
The decision here is rarely about age. It is about whether the machine still finishes work on time and still shows you the right colours.
Thermal service, storage, memory, batteries and ports are all worth spending on. They are the parts that degrade with use, and restoring them returns the machine to the performance it had when the work was going well. We would rather service a good creator laptop than push you toward a new one, particularly when the current machine still has the panel you chose it for.
Replacement makes sense when the panel has failed on a machine bought specifically for its display, or when the mainboard has gone. Both are large parts on this chassis. When either lands we put the repair figure and a realistic replacement figure side by side, and in the panel case we include the profiling work so the comparison is honest. Project data comes first regardless of which way the decision goes. We image readable drives before opening a machine, we record which drive sat in which slot, and where a working drive has failed the data recovery attempt happens before any other work is quoted. Getting the structure back matters as much as getting the bytes back.
No. Calibration describes the specific panel it was measured on, so a new panel needs profiling again with a hardware colorimeter before you can trust it for colour work. We say this before ordering the part and include the profiling in the plan, because a creator laptop that looks fine but grades wrong is worse than one that is obviously broken.
That is usually the cooling losing ground rather than anything failing outright. Dust in the fin stack and dried thermal compound both reduce sustained clocks while leaving short bursts looking normal. We run a long load test to measure where the machine settles, service it, then run the same test again so the improvement is a number rather than an impression.
In most configurations, yes, and it is one of the best things you can do to a creator machine. Keeping the system and applications on one drive and working files on another stops the boot drive filling up, which is what breaks scratch and cache behaviour in editing applications. We check the available slots against your model first.
Probably not. Updates commonly reset the output range, reinstall a display driver or leave a colour profile that no longer loads at sign-in, and any of those shifts what you see. We check the profile chain and the driver before touching hardware. A failing panel usually shows an uneven backlight or a cast that persists no matter which profile is applied.
For colour and production work the studio branch is generally the better choice, because it is validated against creative applications and changes less often. The gaming branch updates faster and targets new titles. Whichever you choose, stay on one branch rather than alternating, since most of the odd colour and stability behaviour we see comes from mixed driver installs.
Often, and the important part is returning them in a structure the application can reopen. We stop using the drive immediately, image it, and work from the image so nothing gets worse. Recovery is never guaranteed on a failing drive, but we will tell you what is realistic before you commit to it rather than afterwards.
