LOQ sits below Legion in Lenovo’s gaming range, and it faces the same physics with less room and less money to solve it. The thermal work is identical. The upgrade headroom often is not. We check what your particular build actually supports before quoting anything.
LOQ Repair
LOQ is Lenovo’s more affordable gaming line, positioned below Legion. It runs demanding workloads in a chassis built to a lower cost, and that trade shows up in exactly the places you would expect.
A discrete graphics chip produces the heat it produces regardless of what the laptop cost. What changes between a premium gaming chassis and a value one is the size of the fin stack, the number of heat pipes and how much air the fans can actually move. LOQ machines cool adequately when they are clean and struggle sooner than a more expensive design when they are not. In practice that means the cleaning interval is shorter, not that the machine is badly built.
The usual report is that a game runs well for the first ten minutes and then stutters. That is thermal protection doing its job. The processor or graphics chip reaches its limit and pulls clocks back to stay there. Nothing has broken. The heat simply is not leaving fast enough, either because the fin stack is blocked, the compound has dried, or the machine is sitting on a soft surface that blocks the intakes underneath.
We log temperatures, clocks and power draw through a sustained load rather than reading a single number at idle. That separates a machine that needs a clean from one where a fan is no longer moving the air it should, and it means you are not paying for a teardown just to find out which.
This is where the line differs most from Legion, and where we see the most disappointment. Configurations vary: some ship with part of the memory soldered to the board and a single free slot, some have two slots, and drive expansion may be one M.2 socket rather than two. Retail listings rarely make this clear. We confirm the real configuration against the machine type before quoting a memory upgrade, because on a value chassis the ceiling is genuinely lower and you deserve to know that before you spend.
Where headroom does exist, use it. A larger NVMe drive ends the constant uninstalling that comes with a small boot drive, and enough memory keeps the system from swapping in the middle of a session. Those two changes do more for a value gaming machine than any settings tweak will.
Everything else behaves like a value laptop with a gaming load bolted onto it. Plastic where a premium chassis uses metal, a dedicated adapter that has to be used for full performance, and hinge and port wear that turns up a little earlier than it would further up the range. Soldered memory, a single drive socket and a lower memory ceiling are all common on value gaming builds. The machine type model on the base label tells us which of those apply to your machine.
Common LOQ Repairs
Cooling first, because it accounts for the majority of the calls.
Blocked fin stacks and dried compound on machines that stutter after ten minutes of load. Comfortably the most common job here.
Rattles, whines and fans that no longer move the air they should. Measured under load rather than judged by ear from across the room.
Charging that cuts in and out, and machines throttling because they are running from an underpowered supply instead of the dedicated adapter.
Larger NVMe drives and memory fitted to what the board actually supports, confirmed against the configuration before you pay for parts.
Cracked screens, hinge mounts loosening in a plastic chassis, and worn ports on machines that get carried every day.
Driver conflicts, background load and a boot drive with no free space left. We rule these out before recommending any teardown.

Repair or Replace
A cheaper machine changes the arithmetic, though not always in the direction people assume.
Thermal service, a charging repair, a drive or a battery on a LOQ are contained jobs, and on a machine that is otherwise sound they are clearly worth doing. A clean and repaste in particular tends to return more performance than the owner expects, precisely because the machine has been throttling gradually enough that nobody noticed the decline happening.
The point where it stops adding up arrives sooner than on a premium machine, simply because the replacement cost is lower. A system board fault or a failed graphics chip in a laptop means a board, and against a value chassis that rarely makes sense. A cracked panel and a failed board on the same unit is almost always a replacement conversation, and we will say so directly rather than quoting a repair you would resent later.
Data is handled the same way whatever the machine cost. We image the drive before invasive work if it can be read, nothing is wiped without your instruction, and if the drive itself has failed we treat that as a data recovery job with its own honest odds. Game installs are replaceable. Saves, recordings, screenshots and coursework sitting on the same drive are not.
The faults are similar, the margins are not. LOQ sits below Legion in the range, with a lower-cost chassis and usually less cooling headroom, so heat problems show up earlier and upgrade ceilings are lower. Repairs are the same kind of work, but the point at which replacing beats repairing arrives sooner.
That pattern is thermal throttling, not a fault. The chips reach their temperature limit and reduce clocks to stay there. The cause is usually a blocked fin stack, dried thermal compound, or intakes blocked by a bed or a couch. We confirm it by logging temperatures and clocks through a sustained load.
Sometimes, and the answer depends on your exact configuration rather than the model name. Some builds solder part of the memory to the board and leave one slot free, which caps how far you can go. Others have two slots. Send us the machine type model from the base label and we will tell you the real ceiling.
For browsing and light work it is fine. For gaming it is not. The supplied adapter delivers far more power, and on the smaller supply the machine holds its clocks down to stay within budget. If performance only drops when you are using a different charger, that is the whole story.
On a machine that is throttling, yes, it is usually the best value work we do. It restores performance that has been slipping away for a year or two and costs far less than replacing the laptop. If the temperatures come back normal and the machine still stutters, we look at drivers and storage instead and tell you so.
Either a larger drive in the existing socket, or a second drive if the board has a spare one. Which applies depends on the build, so we check first. We clone the existing system across so nothing has to be reinstalled, and you keep the old drive if you want it as a backup.
Send the model and describe when the problem appears. Cooling faults and configuration limits are usually clear from that alone.
