ExpertBook hardware is built the way business hardware should be. Keyboards and batteries tend to be discrete serviceable parts rather than bonded into an assembly, memory sockets and drive slots are common, and parts stay available for a sensible working life. That is why a business line typically costs less to keep running over five years than a consumer machine that was cheaper on the day it was bought. It also means most repairs on this page are straightforwardly worth doing.
The single most common ExpertBook complaint we take is not really about the laptop. Monitors that drop when someone bumps the desk, a dock that charges but will not pass video, a machine that needs unplugging and replugging every morning, or two displays that work individually and never together. The fault is usually somewhere in the chain rather than in the machine, and the chain has more links than people expect.
We test the whole path: the laptop, the dock firmware, the cable, the display and the power budget the arrangement demands. Cables sold as capable of far more than they deliver are a recurring culprit, and so is a dock trying to drive two displays and charge a laptop from a supply that was never sized for it. Once we find it, we standardise on hardware that actually works and the tickets stop, rather than recurring monthly.
When every machine in an office runs a different firmware revision, faults become impossible to reason about. One laptop sleeps badly, another loses its dock, a third behaves differently after an update, and nobody can tell what is a hardware fault and what is drift. We bring the fleet to one known firmware and driver baseline, document it, and keep it there.
That work also covers the security settings that matter and get forgotten: secure boot state, the TPM required for disk encryption, and BIOS administrator passwords that are recorded somewhere other than a departed employee’s memory. We implement and support those safeguards as part of managed IT services. We do not certify anyone as compliant with anything, and you should be wary of a provider who offers to.
Most of the businesses we look after in Chandler and Gilbert do not have an IT department. They have an office manager who also handles the laptops, and a handful of machines bought at different times because that is how budgets work. The result is a fleet in name only, with three imaging states, mixed encryption and no record of which machine belongs to whom.
Bringing that under control is unglamorous and pays for itself quickly. One image, one driver baseline, encryption on and its keys escrowed properly, a real asset list, and a documented setup for new starters so a machine can be handed over ready to work. We do the initial setup and deployment and the data migration from the machines being retired, so nobody spends a first morning hunting for files.
An asset list with each machine’s product code, its user and its purchase date turns hardware replacement from an emergency into a budget line. It also means we can quote parts for any unit in your fleet without it leaving the office first.

Lifecycle
On a business fleet this is a planning question, and it should never be answered one machine at a time in a panic.
Because the parts are serviceable, ExpertBook repairs usually make sense. Keyboards, batteries, drives, memory and charging faults keep a working machine in service for a fraction of replacement cost, and the machine goes back to its user already matching the fleet baseline. Mainboards and full display assemblies are the point where we compare against a replacement, and on a business unit we also weigh how many years of support and parts availability are realistically left.
What we would rather do is take the guesswork out of it. We produce an asset list with storage health, battery condition and Windows 11 eligibility for every machine, so replacement becomes a planned budget line spread across a year instead of three emergencies in one quarter. Offices that do this stop having laptop crises, which is a low bar that a surprising number of small businesses never clear.
Data handling on a business machine has extra steps. Encrypted volumes need recovery keys held somewhere the business controls, not on a sticky note in a drawer, and retired machines need their storage properly wiped before disposal rather than sitting in a cupboard indefinitely. We handle both, and we handle the transfer to the replacement so the user loses one morning at most.

Driving two displays while charging a laptop demands genuine power delivery, and plenty of cables cannot carry what they claim. We test the whole chain and then standardise the office on a combination that works.
Yes, and it is the cheapest thing you can do for your own sanity. We build one image with your applications, printers and drive mappings, apply it to every new machine, and bring the existing ones onto the same baseline. New starters then get a laptop that is ready to work rather than a project.
This comes up more often than you would think, usually after a staff change. What is possible depends on the model and how the machine was configured, and we will be straight with you about the options rather than promising an outcome. Once resolved, we record the credentials somewhere the business controls.
Both. Firmware baselines, imaging, configuration and most software faults are handled remotely, and we come to you or take the machine in for anything physical. Our own staff do the work in either case. We never hand a client fleet to a third party.
We audit them. Storage health, battery condition, memory, firmware level and whether each unit can move to a current Windows release. That produces a list you can budget against, so replacement is scheduled rather than triggered by a failure on the morning of a deadline.
If the recovery key was escrowed to the business account, yes, and it is straightforward. If encryption was enabled under a personal account with no escrow, the honest answer is that it may not be recoverable at all. That is exactly why we set encryption up centrally, and it is worth checking your current position before it matters.
