Envy 13, 14 and 15
The mainstream Envy. Aluminium top case with integrated keyboard, compact cooling, and storage that is normally a replaceable module. Memory varies by board.
HP Envy Repair
The Envy sat above the Pavilion: aluminium instead of plastic, thinner, better screens, and far less room inside for anything to go wrong. HP has retired the name for new products, but the machines are everywhere. Battery swelling, bonded display assemblies and top-case keyboards are the three jobs that define Envy service.
Envy Repair
An Envy is not a Pavilion in a metal shell. The construction changes what breaks, and it changes what a repair costs.
Envy laptops and Envy x360 convertibles use aluminium top covers and palmrests with the internals packed hard against the base. Everything is thinner: the board, the battery, the display assembly and the gap between the fan and the fin stack. None of that is a flaw, but it does mean components sit closer to their limits, and it means HP supplies parts as assemblies rather than as individual pieces. Envy has now been retired as a name for new products, with the current consumer equivalents sitting under the OmniBook range.
The Envy fault we treat most urgently is a swollen pack. In a chassis this shallow a lifting cell has nowhere to go except into the touchpad and the base panel. Owners describe it as a touchpad that clicks by itself, a laptop that rocks on the desk, or a visible bow in the bottom cover. Stop using it, take it off charge, and bring it in.
We remove the pack, check the base and touchpad for permanent deformation, and fit a replacement. Old cells are disposed of properly rather than binned. That work sits alongside everything else on our laptop repair bench, so the machine gets a full health check while it is open.
Envy screens are frequently touch panels bonded to the cover glass. When one cracks, glass and panel come as a single assembly, which is why an Envy screen quote lands well above a plain non-touch equivalent. Non-touch Envy models are much cheaper to put right, so the first thing we establish is which one you have. The product number answers it in seconds.
The keyboard is integrated into the aluminium top case on most Envy models. A spill or a dead row therefore becomes a top-case replacement, palmrest and touchpad included. We raise this early because it moves the repair-or-replace maths more than any other single part on the machine.
Cooling deserves attention here before it becomes a complaint. Thin fin stacks block quickly, and dried compound shows up as clocks falling off a cliff about ten minutes into anything demanding. On this chassis a strip, clean and repaste is closer to routine maintenance than to a repair, and it is worth doing at the same time as an SSD upgrade so the machine only has to come apart once.
A bonded touch assembly costs considerably more than a plain panel. Give us the product number from the base label and we will tell you which one your Envy has before you commit to anything.
Envy Repairs
Listed by how often they arrive, not by what is most profitable to sell.
Priority work. We check the base panel, touchpad and board for damage caused by the lifting pack, then fit and calibrate a replacement.
Cracked glass, dead backlights and pressure marks. We confirm the exact panel from the product number rather than matching by eye.
Spills, worn key legends and dead rows. On most Envy models the keyboard is part of the top case, so we price it honestly up front.
For fan noise, sudden clock drops and shutdowns under load. Thin fin stacks in a dusty valley need this more often than the design allows for.
Ports that no longer negotiate, failed charge boards, and machines that slowly run flat while plugged in.
Metal covers hide a cracked internal mount well. We check lid flushness and hinge torque on every Envy that comes through, not just the ones with complaints.
Where the board actually permits it. Some Envy models solder their memory down, and we confirm before quoting any upgrade.
Envy Variants
Screen type and memory type drive most of the difference between a cheap job and an expensive one.
The mainstream Envy. Aluminium top case with integrated keyboard, compact cooling, and storage that is normally a replaceable module. Memory varies by board.
A hinge that folds flat, a pen digitiser and bonded glass. More hinge cycles than a clamshell sees, and the most expensive screens in the range.
Bigger boards, better airflow and often discrete graphics. Heavier lids put real load through the hinge, and thermal service pays off more here than anywhere else in the line.
Bonded panel, internal power supply, mobile parts in a desktop body. Storage and memory work is straightforward. Panel and power board work is where the numbers climb.
Repair or Replace
On this line the decision usually comes down to the screen assembly and the top case. Everything else is affordable.
Batteries, charge boards, fans, thermal service, storage and hinge work on an Envy are all sensible repairs on a machine that is otherwise in good order. Aluminium chassis age well, so a five-year-old Envy often looks and feels far newer than a plastic laptop of the same vintage. That is a genuine argument for fixing rather than replacing.
The two jobs that can outgrow the machine are a bonded touch panel and a top-case assembly, especially together after a drop or a spill. When both are needed on an older Envy we will show you that total next to what a current machine costs and let you decide with the real figures in front of you. We do not pad a quote to make the repair look inevitable, and we will happily say the repair is not worth doing. For a straight cracked panel with no other damage, our screen replacement page covers what the process involves.
Whatever you decide, the data is handled first. We image the drive before dismantling anything where the drive still reads, and if you move to a new machine we handle the data migration so your files, mail profiles and settings land where you expect them.
That is a swelling battery pushing up through the chassis. It is the one HP fault we ask people to stop using immediately. Take it off charge and bring it in. We remove the pack, check whether the base panel, touchpad or board have been permanently deformed, and fit a replacement.
Because many Envy models bond the touch digitiser and cover glass directly to the panel, so the whole thing is supplied as one assembly. Non-touch Envy models are much cheaper. We identify which build you have from the product number before quoting, so there is no surprise later.
It depends on the board. Some Envy models use standard sockets, others solder the memory down permanently. There is no way to tell from the outside, which is why we check the product number against the service documentation rather than guessing. If it is socketed, a memory upgrade is one of the cheapest useful things you can do.
Almost certainly not. That pattern is a blocked fin stack and dried thermal compound, and it is common on thin chassis in a dusty climate. A strip, clean and repaste restores normal sustained clocks. We check drive health and battery condition in the same visit so nothing else is missed.
No. HP consolidated its consumer laptops under the OmniBook name and retired Envy, Spectre and Pavilion as names for new products. That does not affect support for the machine you own. Service parts for recent Envy models are still available, and we repair them the same way we always have.
Sometimes, but often not. USB-C charging depends on the port, the charge board and the controller that negotiates power, and the port itself is frequently the healthiest part of that chain. We test with a known-good adapter and meter the board before condemning anything.
Tell us the product number and what changed. We will tell you whether it is a part, a clean or a conversation about replacement.

Turn the laptop over. The product number printed under the barcode is what we need, more than the Envy name itself, because it pins down the panel type and which parts actually fit.
