The one computer in the business

MSI Modern Repair
The Modern line is the plain, useful laptop: the one on a small office desk or in a student backpack. It rarely fails dramatically. It gets slow, it gets dropped, it gets things spilled on it. We fix those cheaply and tell you honestly when an upgrade beats a replacement.
MSI Modern Repair
Modern machines are bought for email, documents, spreadsheets, video calls and coursework. They are not glamorous and they are very worth maintaining.
This is a straightforward thin laptop: a light chassis, integrated graphics in most builds, modest cooling because it does not need much, and a sensible port set. Because it is used for undemanding work, it tends to stay useful long after a gaming machine of the same age has been retired. Most Modern laptops that arrive here are not broken in any real sense. They are slow, or cluttered, or short of space, and the owner has been told they need a new computer by somebody who did not look.
Two things account for most of it. The first is a storage drive that is nearly full, which slows a machine down noticeably and is easily missed. The second is memory: a laptop that was fine with a browser and a document struggles once there are twenty tabs, a video call and a spreadsheet open at the same time. Both are cheap to fix on this chassis and both produce an immediate, obvious improvement.
Heat is the third cause and the one people rarely suspect on a machine that is not a gaming laptop. Even a modest cooling system loads up with dust in this climate, and a laptop that throttles will feel exactly like a laptop that is old. We check temperature behaviour and drive health together, so you get one clear answer instead of guesses. Where software really is the problem, a proper clean up or a virus and spyware removal is the fix, not new hardware.
For a lot of small businesses in Gilbert this is the only computer, which changes the priorities: the data matters more than the laptop and getting back to work matters more than the elegance of the repair. For students it is the backpack that does the damage. Lid pressure against books cracks panels, drops loosen hinge mounts and knock charging ports, and drinks find keyboards. Those are all repairs we do routinely and none of them means starting again.
Spills are the one thing worth acting on immediately. Power the machine down, leave it off and bring it in. On a thin chassis the damage that matters is corrosion, and how fast the machine is opened and cleaned decides the outcome far more than anything else. Every other fault on this list will wait a day. A spill will not.
The other reason these machines end up on the bench is Windows. Feature updates, drivers, cluttered start up and the question of whether a machine can move to the current version account for a large share of the calls we take. If yours qualifies, the upgrade is usually the sensible route and we handle it properly, which is covered on our Windows 11 support page. If it does not qualify, we will say so and plan around it rather than leaving you on something unsupported. Everything else here follows the same approach as our general laptop repair work.
A drive with almost nothing free will make any laptop feel broken. It is the most common cause of a slow Modern, the cheapest to fix, and it takes thirty seconds to check before you call anyone.
Common Modern Repairs
Most of this list is inexpensive, which is the point.
The most common fix for a slow Modern. More space and a faster drive, with everything moved across so the machine comes back as you left it.
For machines that bog down with several applications and a video call open. We confirm whether your build has sockets before quoting.
Immediate teardown and cleaning after a spill. The sooner it arrives, the better the odds, and we give you an honest assessment once it is open.
Cracked screens from backpack pressure and loosened hinge mounts after a knock, repaired before the display cable is damaged.
Damaged charging ports from drops and tugged cables, plus packs that no longer hold a useful working day.
Failed updates, broken boot configurations and machines slowed by years of software, rebuilt cleanly with drivers put back correctly.
Where replacing is the better answer, we move files, settings and licences so the new laptop feels like the old one on day one.
By Owner
The same chassis, three or four quite different service conversations.
Data protection and quick turnaround matter most. We image first, repair second, and keep you able to work while it happens.
Cracked panels, loosened hinges, knocked charging ports and spills. Almost all of it repairable, and worth repairing at this price point.
Slow, cluttered and short of space rather than faulty. A drive, some memory and a clean up usually gives several more good years.
The point where the Windows question decides everything. We check eligibility for the current version before recommending any spend.
Worth Fixing?
On an everyday laptop the honest answer is often the cheapest one, and it is usually not a new machine.
If the chassis is sound and the machine supports the current version of Windows, a storage upgrade and more memory will transform it for a small fraction of replacement cost, and that is what we recommend most often on this line. Charging repairs, packs and hinge work are similarly sensible. The point where we change our advice is a failed main board, serious liquid damage, or a machine that cannot run a supported version of Windows. In those cases we say so plainly, because spending on a machine you will have to replace anyway is money gone twice.
Screens sit in between and depend on the machine. On a Modern that is otherwise in good condition a panel replacement is usually worth doing. On one that is already several years in and struggling for other reasons, it often is not. We give you the part cost and our view of the whole machine together, then let you decide with the numbers in front of you.
Whichever way it goes, the data comes first. The drive is imaged before any mechanical work where it can be read, and if the drive is the fault we tell you honestly what the prospects are before you spend anything on data recovery. If you are replacing the machine, we move everything across and set the new one up so it works the way you are used to. Call us on (602) 677-0779 and describe the symptom, and we will tell you what it usually turns out to be.
Usually not. On this line the two normal causes are a drive that is nearly full and not enough memory, and both are inexpensive to put right. Dust and heat come third. We check storage health, capacity and temperature behaviour together, then tell you which one it is instead of selling you a machine.
Turn it off straight away, do not try to power it back on to see if it works, and bring it in as soon as possible. The damage that matters is corrosion, and it starts immediately. Machines that arrive the same day and get opened and cleaned properly have far better outcomes than ones left to dry out.
It depends on the age and the processor generation in your specific build, so we check rather than guess. If it qualifies we handle the upgrade properly, including drivers and a backup first. If it does not, we tell you honestly and help you plan, because staying on an unsupported version is not a good long term answer.
That depends on how you use it. If the laptop mostly lives on a desk with the charger connected, you can reasonably live with it. If you carry it to classes or client meetings, a replacement makes the machine usable again. We test the pack against its design capacity so you are deciding from a real number.
Usually yes, and it is worth doing sooner rather than later. A knock can loosen the hinge mounts, and once the lid moves against the display cable each time it opens, a cheap mount repair turns into a screen and cable job. Bring it in while the display is still working properly.
Yes, that is routine work for us. Files, settings, browser data, printers and licensed software all move across, and we set the new machine up so it behaves the way you are used to. We also make sure the old drive is either returned to you or wiped properly rather than left in a drawer with your data on it.
Most of what makes an everyday laptop feel finished is cheap to fix. Tell us the symptom and find out.
