The Stealth line exists because people wanted gaming hardware in something that does not announce itself. The cooling has to do the same work in less space.

There is nothing wrong with the design. It is a set of deliberate compromises: a slim lid, a shallow keyboard deck, fine pitch cooling fins and fans that have to spin faster to move the same air. When a Stealth is new and clean it performs well. The catch is that the same compromises make it less tolerant of the ordinary ageing that every laptop goes through, so a Stealth shows its maintenance needs earlier and more sharply than a thick chassis does. Most of what owners describe as the machine getting old is maintenance that is overdue rather than hardware that has failed.

Compound pump out and compressed pads

Thermal compound in a tight chassis lives through a lot of heat cycling in a small volume, and over time it migrates away from the centre of the die. The industry calls it pump out. The effect is a machine that used to hold its performance and now spikes to its temperature limit within a minute or two. Alongside it, the thermal pads over power delivery and memory compress and go hard, so they stop bridging the gap they were fitted to bridge.

Renewing both together is the single most effective Stealth repair. It is also the one most often done badly. Pads have to go back at the thickness the chassis was designed around, not whatever is on the shelf, and the heatsink screws have to be torqued in the right sequence so the cold plate sits flat. Done properly it gives back real sustained performance. Done carelessly it makes the machine worse, and we see the results of that often enough to mention it.

Fans are a wear part in this chassis

Stealth fans run at higher speed for more of their life than fans in a bigger machine, so bearing wear is a normal end of life event rather than a defect. It usually arrives as a tick that appears only at certain speeds, a whine that was not there last year, or a fan that hesitates before spinning up. We judge it by sound and current draw, and we are just as willing to tell you a loud fan is healthy and simply working hard because the fin stack is blocked.

The fins themselves are the other thin chassis problem. Fine pitch fins block sooner than coarse ones, and in Arizona they block with fine grit that mats rather than falls out. Blowing air in through the vents pushes that mat deeper. Clearing it means taking the machine apart, which is why a real service and a quick clean are not the same thing and do not produce the same result.

Everything else on a Stealth follows from the same slim build. The lid has less structure than a thicker laptop, so pressure through a bag is a common cause of cracked panels and a job we handle as ordinary screen replacement work. Batteries sit under the palmrest, and a pack that has started to swell will lift the keyboard deck or stiffen the touchpad before anything else gives it away, which is worth acting on quickly. A clean is not a service

Compressed air through the vents moves loose dust and leaves the packed mat in the fins. A real service means the heatsink comes off, the stack is cleared, and compound and pads go back new.

What service can and cannot give back

We would rather set the expectation before the work than explain it afterwards.

A proper thermal service on a neglected Stealth makes a large, measurable difference, and owners regularly describe the machine as feeling new again. What it will not do is turn a thin chassis into a thick one. If a Stealth is being asked to hold maximum sustained load for hours at a time, it will still reach its limit sooner than a larger machine, because that is the design and no amount of compound changes it. Knowing that in advance is the difference between a happy customer and a disappointed one, so we say it up front.

On cost, this line sits in a reasonable place. Cooling service, fans, packs and storage are all worth doing on a Stealth that is otherwise in good shape. A cracked panel is the item that most often tips an older unit toward replacement, since slim high specification screens are not cheap parts. Data is handled before anything mechanical. My Stealth hits its temperature limit within a minute. Is it broken?

Probably not broken, probably overdue. That pattern is classic compound pump out combined with a blocked fin stack, and it appears earlier on thin chassis than on thick ones. A full service with new compound and correctly specified pads usually brings sustained performance back. We measure before and after so you can see what changed.

How often should a thin gaming laptop be repasted?

Every year or two is reasonable for a Stealth in this climate, sooner if it lives on soft surfaces or in a dusty room. Thicker machines can go longer. There is no fixed rule, so we go by what the temperatures and clocks are actually doing rather than by a date on a calendar.

There is a ticking noise from the left side of the machine. What is it?

Nine times out of ten that is a fan bearing starting to go, and it often shows up at one particular speed rather than across the range. We confirm it by sound and by current draw before replacing anything, because a fan that is merely loud under load is usually healthy and telling you the fins need clearing.

The touchpad has gone stiff and the keyboard deck feels raised. What causes that?

That is the sign of a battery that has started to swell underneath the palmrest. It is worth dealing with promptly rather than waiting, both for the machine and for safety. We remove and dispose of the old pack properly and fit a tested replacement, then check the charging circuit while we are in there.

Can I add more memory to my Stealth?

Sometimes. Thin gaming chassis vary, and some builds use soldered memory that cannot be changed while others have accessible sockets. We check your exact machine before we promise anything. If it is soldered, we will tell you rather than quote an upgrade that cannot be fitted.

Will undervolting or a custom fan curve fix my temperatures instead of a service?

Tuning can help a healthy machine, but it does not fix dried compound or a matted fin stack. Turning fans up on a blocked heatsink just makes noise. Get the hardware right first, then a sensible fan profile is a fine way to trade a little noise for a little more headroom.
