Austin IT support for teams growing faster than their systems

Orca IT supports Austin businesses remotely from Gilbert, Arizona with managed IT, security, identity and help desk. One pod of our own engineers owns your account. We spend most of our Austin time on the two problems growth creates: onboarding that cannot keep up, and controls a customer is about to audit.

Austin, TX

Fast growth is an IT problem before it is anything else

Software, semiconductors, hardware engineering, state government contracting, film and music, and a startup pipeline that turns ten-person teams into eighty-person companies inside two years.

The classic Austin situation looks like this. A company starts with founders who set everything up themselves, sensibly, for five people. Two years later there are sixty staff across downtown, the Domain and a dozen home offices, forty SaaS applications bought on personal cards, a Google or Microsoft tenant with permissions nobody has reviewed, no offboarding process, and an enterprise customer asking for a SOC 2 report. Nothing is broken exactly. It is just that none of it was designed for this size.

The fix starts with identity. One directory that is the single source of truth for who exists, with MFA and conditional access applied everywhere, single sign-on into the applications that support it, and a joiner-mover-leaver process that runs the same way every time. That one change removes most of the risk and most of the onboarding friction. After that comes device management, endpoint detection and response, logging with sensible retention, and vendor inventory, the practical groundwork behind any security review, delivered through Pod Guard.

Not all of Austin is software. There is serious semiconductor and hardware engineering here, with lab and test environments, expensive equipment on locked operating systems, and large design datasets that punish an ordinary file server. There are state agency contractors with their own procurement requirements. There is a film, music and events economy with heavy media workflows and staff who work in bursts. Each needs a different weighting of the same core service, which is what Pod Care provides.

Orca IT works from Gilbert, Arizona and has no Austin staff. Identity, cloud, security, network and help desk work is done through encrypted remote sessions, which suits a company whose staff are scattered anyway. When hardware fails or an office needs cabling we arrange a vetted local technician for that step, with your consent and our engineers directing it. Texas neighbours run the same model in San Antonio, Dallas and Houston.

We are not your compliance auditor

We build and document the technical controls a SOC 2 or customer security review examines, and we tell you where you fall short. The report itself comes from an independent auditor.

How It Works

How we come into a fast-moving company

01

Inventory, honestly

Devices, accounts, SaaS applications, admin rights, data locations and backups. Most Austin scale-ups are surprised by how many accounts belong to people who left.

02

Fix identity first

One directory, MFA everywhere, conditional access, single sign-on where supported, and a documented joiner-mover-leaver process. This closes more risk than anything else we do.

03

Standardise devices

Managed enrolment, disk encryption, patching, endpoint detection and response, and a staged build so a new hire in any city is productive on day one.

04

Keep it reviewed

Surface Check meetings with your leadership on access reviews, spend, aging equipment and what the next customer security review will ask for.

Central time, with cover past your close.

Arizona skips daylight saving, so we are two hours behind Austin in summer and one in winter. Our desk is live well after yours goes quiet.

Services

What Austin companies use us for

Six services aimed at growth, security reviews and distributed teams.

Identity

SSO and access control

Entra ID or your directory as the single source of truth, MFA and conditional access enforced, application access granted by role rather than by memory.

Onboarding

Day-one readiness

Machines staged and shipped, accounts and licenses provisioned, security policy applied before the laptop arrives, and access fully removed the day someone leaves.

Audit Prep

Controls a reviewer can verify

Logging and retention, patching cadence, endpoint protection coverage, access reviews, backup testing and written procedure, packaged as evidence rather than assertions.

SaaS Sprawl

Vendor and license control

An inventory of what you are actually paying for, who has access, what data each vendor holds, and where two products are duplicating each other’s job.

Engineering

Lab and design environments

Segmented test networks, protection for large design datasets, isolation for instruments on locked operating systems, and storage that keeps up with the work.

Help Desk

Pod Response for remote-first teams

Same-business-day human help wherever your staff are, without asking anyone to bring a laptop somewhere. After-hours emergency cover for Pod Care clients.

Austin remote IT support questions

Do you have people in Austin?

No. We are family owned in Gilbert, Arizona and support Austin clients remotely with our own engineers, never a subcontracted desk. For genuinely physical work we arrange a vetted local technician for that task only, with your approval and with us directing the visit.

Can you get us SOC 2 compliant?

We can build and document the technical controls that a SOC 2 examination looks at, access control, MFA, logging, change management, endpoint protection, backup and vendor management. The attestation itself is issued by an independent auditor. Any provider who says they can certify you is telling you something untrue.

We are fully remote with no office. Does that work?

It works better than an office, frankly. Everything we do is delivered remotely anyway. Devices are enrolled and managed wherever they are, identity is the security boundary rather than the network, and machines can be staged in Arizona and shipped directly to a new hire.

How do you handle offboarding for us?

As a defined process rather than a favour. Accounts disabled and sessions revoked, MFA methods removed, device wiped or reassigned, mailbox handled per your policy, SaaS access removed against the vendor inventory, and a written record of what was done and when.

What is the working-hours overlap?

Arizona does not observe daylight saving, so we are two hours behind Austin from March to November and one hour behind for the rest of the year. Our day extends past yours, which suits companies whose engineers file tickets at six in the evening.

We already have an internal IT person. Do you replace them?

Not usually, and we will say so. A common arrangement is that we take monitoring, patching, security tooling, after-hours coverage and the repetitive help desk load, and your internal person gets to work on the projects they were hired for instead of resetting passwords.

Grow without the IT becoming the bottleneck.

Start with a free assessment of identity, devices and controls. You keep the findings whatever you decide.
