Wasatch Front

Three very different industries, one metro

Salt Lake has the growth patterns of a tech hub and the compliance culture of a finance and healthcare centre, which makes for an unusual set of IT requirements.

The technology corridor is the fastest-moving piece. Software, SaaS, fintech and services companies along the Wasatch Front hire in steps rather than curves, and the arrangement that worked at twenty-five people falls apart at eighty. The symptoms are always the same: shared logins nobody owns, a SaaS estate no one has inventoried, contractors whose access was never revoked, licence spend that has drifted, and onboarding that takes a founder half a day. We replace that with standard builds, automated provisioning, single sign-on across your applications, and an offboarding checklist that runs the same day someone leaves. Flat per-user pricing under our managed IT plan means adding twenty people is a predictable line item rather than a project.

Finance is the second pillar and it changes the rules. Salt Lake carries a large banking, lending, payments and asset management presence, and the firms around it inherit real obligations: retention of business communications, encryption of client data, documented access reviews, and the ability to produce records on request. We configure retention and archiving in Microsoft 365, document how it is set up, and treat the evidence as part of the job. Our security programme is built around that expectation rather than bolted on afterwards.

Healthcare is the third. A large medical and research presence produces a wide base of practices, clinics, specialty groups and health-adjacent companies handling protected health information. We help them meet HIPAA's technical safeguards, access control, audit logging, encryption at rest and in transit, tested backup, and we say plainly that helping you meet requirements is not the same as certifying compliance.

Cutting across all three is a workforce that treats hybrid and remote work as normal, with people distributed from downtown out through Lehi, Provo and the canyons. That makes identity the perimeter rather than the office network, and it makes remote support the right delivery model instead of a compromise. Our nationwide list is at remote IT support.

Why our clock suits Utah particularly well

Arizona does not observe daylight saving time and Utah does. From November to March we read exactly the same hour as you. From March to November we are one hour behind, which simply means our afternoon extends past your close of business. There is no handoff gap in either direction and nothing waits overnight for another region to open.

Salt Lake City remote IT questions

How close is Arizona to Utah time?

As close as it gets without being in the same state. Arizona stays on standard time all year, so from November to March we are on exactly the same hour as Salt Lake City, and from March to November we are one hour behind. Our engineers are online through your entire working day and past your close.

We use twenty different SaaS applications. Can you manage that?

Yes, and the first step is usually discovery, because most growing companies cannot list them accurately. We inventory what is in use, connect what can be connected to single sign-on, review who holds administrative rights in each, and rationalise licences. Offboarding then becomes one action instead of twenty forgotten ones.

We are hiring fast. Will onboarding keep up?

That is one of the main reasons companies at your stage hire us. Standard builds per role, automated account and licence provisioning and pre-configured devices mean a new engineer or salesperson is working on their first morning. Flat per-user pricing keeps the cost of growth predictable.

Can you support both Macs and Windows machines?

Yes, and most Utah tech companies run both. We enforce FileVault and BitLocker, patch both platforms, hold both to the same identity provider and backup expectations, and never push you toward one platform because it is easier for us.

We handle financial client data. What do you put in place?

Retention and archiving configured to the period your compliance function specifies, encryption at rest and in transit, least-privilege access with documented reviews, audit logging, phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication and tested offsite backups. Then we write down how it is configured, which is the part that matters when someone asks.

Do you outsource support?

Never. Orca IT is family owned, has been in business since 2015, and every engineer is our employee. The same small named team stays with your account as you grow, so nobody re-learns your environment every quarter.

Growth is the best time to fix IT and the worst time to improvise.
