Careful IT for a careful industry

Insurance is the anchor and it shapes everything around it. Beyond the carriers themselves sits a wide field of independent agencies, brokerages, third-party administrators, claims and adjusting firms, actuarial consultancies and benefits administrators. All of them handle personal and financial information belonging to other people, and increasingly their carrier and vendor relationships come with security requirements attached. The practical list is consistent: multi-factor authentication on every account, encryption on every laptop, documented access reviews, retention of business communications, tested backups, and an incident response plan that exists on paper. Our security programme builds exactly that, and produces the evidence as a normal part of the work.

Financial services and wealth management form the second cluster, with obligations that overlap but are not identical, supervision and retention of electronic communications, encryption of client records, and the ability to demonstrate who had access to what. We configure retention, holds and archiving in Microsoft 365 and write the configuration down, because the settings alone are worthless if nobody can explain them a year later.

Agricultural technology is the newer and more interesting layer. Iowa's agtech companies sit between software and hardware: precision agriculture platforms, equipment telematics, grain and logistics software, biological and seed research, and the co-operatives and suppliers that consume all of it. These businesses have field devices on cellular connections, seasonal load spikes that make capacity planning genuinely difficult, and research or customer data that would be very damaging to lose. They also have a workforce that disappears into rural coverage gaps for parts of the year, which changes how you design remote access. Underneath all of it is the ordinary commercial base: law firms, medical practices, construction companies, distribution operators and manufacturers across the metro and the smaller towns around it.
