Northern Nevada moved from a casino economy to a distribution and data economy in about fifteen years, and most local IT never caught up. Orca IT supports Reno and Sparks businesses remotely from our office in Gilbert, Arizona, on a clock that lines up almost perfectly with yours.

Reno & Sparks

The IT problems Northern Nevada actually has

Reno is not one economy. It is four, sitting on top of each other, and each one breaks in a different way.

The largest and newest is logistics. The Tahoe Reno Industrial Center east of Sparks and the older warehouse corridors along Greg Street and along I-80 hold fulfillment operations, third-party logistics firms and regional distribution centers that serve the whole West Coast from a state with no inventory tax. Those buildings are hard on IT. Racking absorbs Wi-Fi, handheld scanners roam between access points and lose their session mid-pick, and a warehouse management system that stalls for ten minutes backs up a dock for the rest of the shift. Almost all of it is fixable through remote support: access point placement and channel planning on UniFi and similar gear, VLAN separation so scanner traffic is not fighting with guest Wi-Fi, and monitoring that flags a failing switch port before a whole aisle goes dark.

The second is data centers and the technical firms that grew up around them. When your neighbours run hyperscale facilities, your own staff expect infrastructure that behaves. That means real change control, documented network configurations, and backups that get tested rather than assumed. Our managed IT plan includes verified restores, not just green checkmarks in a console.

The third is gaming and hospitality, casinos, the restaurants and vendors around them, and the events business that fills Reno in summer. That world lives under card-payment scrutiny. We help vendors segment payment traffic away from staff machines, keep point-of-sale terminals patched, and lock down the back-office accounts that attackers actually go after. Our security work is layered: identity first, then endpoint, then network.

The fourth is professional services, accountants, engineering firms, wealth managers and law practices in south Reno, Damonte Ranch and up toward Incline Village and the Tahoe basin. These are small teams with high-value data and staff who work from three places in a week. They need identity done properly in Entra ID, conditional access, and a file structure that does not depend on one person's laptop surviving.

Wildfire smoke, snow and the case for remote-first

Northern Nevada loses working days to weather more often than most of the country: mountain snow closing I-80, smoke seasons that keep people home, and the occasional grid event. A business that can only work from its own building is exposed. We build environments where a laptop, an internet connection and multi-factor authentication are enough to run the whole day, and where the office network is a convenience rather than a dependency.

The warehouse does not care whose fault the Wi-Fi is. It cares that the pick is late.Orca IT, Gilbert AZ

What We Cover

Remote services weighted for the Reno business mix

Same catalogue everywhere, different emphasis. This is what Northern Nevada clients use most.

Warehouse Wi-Fi

Coverage that survives racking

Remote survey of your access point layout, channel and power tuning, and scanner roaming fixes so pickers stop re-authenticating mid-aisle.

Multi-Site

Reno office to Sparks warehouse

Site-to-site VPN or SD-WAN between your locations, with one identity, one file system and one set of rules across both.

Payments

Card data kept in its own lane

Network segmentation for point-of-sale and payment terminals, so a compromised front-desk PC cannot reach the card path.

Microsoft 365

Tenant and identity administration

Entra ID, conditional access, MFA rollout, mailbox and licence cleanup, and shared-mailbox structure for dispatch and AP teams.

Backup

Restores we have actually tested

Image-level and cloud backup with periodic test restores, so a ransomware event is a bad afternoon rather than a closed business.

Help Desk

Named engineers on your account

The same small team every time under Pod Response, with same-business-day human response and after-hours emergency cover for Pod Care clients.

How It Works

From first call to fixed, without a truck

01

Deep Dive

A free assessment of your Reno environment: network, identity, backup, licensing and the three things most likely to take a shift down.

02

Agents deployed

A lightweight monitoring and remote-control agent goes on each machine. It takes minutes per device and does not need anyone to stop working.

03

Fix the backlog

We clear the accumulated problems first, failing drives, unpatched servers, orphaned accounts, before we start talking about anything new.

04

Steady state

Pod Watch monitors around the clock, patches land on a schedule you approve, and Surface Check reviews put the numbers in front of your leadership.

Onsite hands when a wire genuinely has to be touched

We are Arizona-based and we do not pretend otherwise. If something physically must be handled in Reno, we arrange it through a vetted local partner and stay on the call the entire time.

Reno remote IT questions

Does the time difference between Arizona and Reno cause problems?

Almost none. Arizona does not observe daylight saving time, so from mid-March to early November our clock is identical to Reno's. In winter we run one hour ahead of you, which means our engineers are already at their desks before your staff arrive. There is no overnight handoff and no waiting for a different region to wake up.

Can you really fix warehouse Wi-Fi without walking the building?

A large share of it, yes. Controller logs, client roaming history, channel utilisation and switch port statistics tell us where the dead spots and the interference are. We tune power levels, fix channel overlap and correct VLAN and roaming settings remotely. If the answer turns out to be that you are three access points short over the racking, we specify exactly what to mount and where, and a local partner can install it.

We have an office in Reno and a warehouse in Sparks. Can both be covered?

Yes, and they should be covered as one environment rather than two. We link the sites, put every user in one identity system, and make sure files, printing and phones behave the same in both buildings. Billing stays flat per user regardless of which building someone sits in.

Do you work with businesses that take card payments?

Regularly. We help you keep payment terminals on a separate network segment, keep the systems that touch card data patched, and tighten the administrative accounts that attackers use to move sideways. We help you meet the technical expectations your processor and your acquirer place on you. We do not issue compliance certifications.

What happens during a smoke event or a snow closure?

Nothing, if we have set you up properly. Staff sign in from home with the same accounts, the same multi-factor prompts and the same file access they have at the office. We test this in advance rather than discovering the gaps on the day the road closes.

Are you outsourcing this to a call centre?

No. Orca IT has never outsourced support. Your account is assigned a small named group of our own engineers, and those are the people who answer, diagnose and fix. We are family owned and have been in business since 2015.

Reno businesses do not need a bigger IT company. They need a consistent one.

Flat monthly pricing, no long-term contract required, and you keep ownership of your hardware and licences. Your pod is with you.
