San Diego IT support for labs, contracts and IP

Orca IT manages IT remotely for San Diego businesses from our Gilbert, Arizona office: help desk, security, servers, cloud and networks. Your account is owned by one pod of our engineers. We spend most of our time here on the things that protect research data and contract data.

Focus Areas

What San Diego businesses ask us for

Life sciences, defense and naval suppliers, wireless and software, tourism and cross-border manufacturing.

Life Sciences

Lab instrument networks

Analytical instruments often ship with a locked, unsupported Windows build the vendor forbids you to patch. We isolate them on their own segment with tight rules so they keep working without becoming the entry point.

Research Data

Data integrity and retention

Controlled access, versioning, audit trails and immutable backups for research records, the practical groundwork behind electronic records expectations and sponsor data requirements.

Defense

NIST 800-171 technical controls

For Kearny Mesa and Point Loma suppliers: scoped access, MFA, encryption, logging, media handling and documented procedure, with evidence prepared for prime contractor review.

IP Protection

Keeping designs where they belong

EDR, conditional access, DNS filtering, data egress visibility and dark web monitoring, plus offboarding that removes access on the day rather than the quarter.

Cross-Border

Multi-site and Baja operations

Site-to-site VPN, consistent identity and endpoint standards across facilities, and network design that keeps a manufacturing site connected without stretching your security boundary.

Help Desk

Pod Response for scientists and staff

Same-business-day human response for benchside users, office staff and remote workers, with after-hours emergency cover for Pod Care clients.

San Diego, CA

Research, defense and a border, in one metro

San Diego’s employers hold two kinds of data that attract attention: scientific and contractual. Both need controls that can be shown, not described.

The life sciences corridor through Torrey Pines, Sorrento Valley and UTC is full of small research companies with disproportionate security exposure. They hold years of research data, they run expensive instruments on operating systems the vendor froze in place, and they answer to sponsors, partners and investors who ask detailed questions during diligence. The work here is usually segmentation and evidence: isolate the instrument networks, control and log access to the data, back up immutably, and be able to produce the access review when someone asks.

Defense and naval contracting is the other pillar, concentrated around Kearny Mesa, Point Loma and the shipyards. The security requirements flow downhill from primes, and small suppliers end up needing NIST SP 800-171 controls with limited staff to implement them. We do the technical implementation and the documentation. We help you meet the requirements and prepare evidence; certification comes from an authorised assessor, not from us.

Beyond those, this is a city of wireless and software engineering, tourism and hospitality, craft brewing, healthcare, and manufacturers running operations on both sides of the border with facilities in Tijuana. Cross-border operations bring their own IT design questions, where identity lives, how sites connect, what a second country does to your data handling. Those are architecture problems, and architecture is done remotely.

We are based in Gilbert, Arizona with no San Diego staff. From March to November our clocks match yours exactly, since Arizona skips daylight saving; in winter we are one hour ahead, so we are already at work when your office opens. Physical tasks, instrument PCs that will not boot, switch installs, cabling, are arranged through a vetted local technician with your consent while your pod directs the job. Nearby clients are handled the same way in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Jose, with everything running through encrypted remote sessions under Pod Care and Pod Guard.

How It Works

Remote support without losing control of your data

01

Scope and consent

We agree what we can reach before we reach it. Attended sessions use a one-time link you launch; unattended agents go only on devices you have approved.

02

Encrypted connection

Sessions are encrypted and initiated outbound from your network. No inbound holes, no exposed remote desktop, no permanent open door in the firewall.

03

Visible and reversible

You watch the session live, take back the mouse whenever you want and end it with one click. Connection logs are retained and available to you.

04

Recorded outcome

Cause, change and result get written into your environment record, which doubles as the evidence trail your sponsors and primes keep asking about.

Same clock as you, most of the year.

Arizona stays on Mountain Standard Time, which is Pacific hours from March to November. In winter we open an hour before you do.

San Diego remote IT support questions

Are you a San Diego company?

No. Orca IT is family owned and based in Gilbert, Arizona, and we support San Diego clients remotely with our own engineers. When a job genuinely requires hands on the equipment we arrange a vetted local technician for that visit, with your consent, while we direct and configure.

Our lab instruments run old Windows and the vendor forbids updates. What do you do?

We treat them as untrusted appliances rather than computers. They go on an isolated network segment with explicit firewall rules, no general internet access, and monitoring on anything that talks to them. Their configuration and output data get backed up separately so a failure does not cost you the study.

Can you support a defense supplier under prime contractor security requirements?

Yes, on the technical side. We implement access control, MFA, encryption, audit logging, media protection and configuration management, and we document them so your prime’s review has something concrete. We do not perform assessments or issue certifications.

How does the time difference work?

Arizona does not observe daylight saving. From March to early November we are on exactly the same clock as San Diego, and from November to March we are one hour ahead. Practically that means matched hours in summer and earlier coverage in winter.

We have a facility in Tijuana. Can you support both sides?

We can support the IT design and the systems: site-to-site connectivity, consistent identity and endpoint standards, segmentation and monitoring across both facilities. Hands-on work at a Baja site would need a local technician, and we would be candid with you about arranging that before you sign anything.

What happens to our data if we leave?

You own your hardware, your licenses and your data, and there is no long-term contract required. If you move on we hand over documentation, credentials and configuration in a usable form. Holding a client hostage with undocumented systems is a business model we have no interest in.
