Shop floor isolation
Machine controllers, quality stations and inspection systems on their own VLANs with monitored boundaries and controlled file transfer.
Fort Wayne, Indiana
Orca IT supports Fort Wayne businesses remotely from Gilbert, Arizona. Manufacturing, defense electronics and insurance dominate here, and all three carry security and continuity requirements that outstrip what most small IT budgets have historically covered.
What We Do
Different parts of your business need different controls. We apply the right ones to each.
Machine controllers, quality stations and inspection systems on their own VLANs with monitored boundaries and controlled file transfer.
Access control, MFA, encryption, logging and retention implemented and documented for CMMC and DFARS expectations from primes.
Encryption, retention policy, retained audit logs and documented incident response for agencies and administrators.
Monitoring, patching, database performance and tested restores for the ERP and EDI systems your customers schedule around.
Local and offsite copies, immutable where supported, with restores performed on a schedule and results written down.
Office, plant and field staff reach the same named engineers with same-business-day human response.
Local Context
This is a manufacturing city with a serious defense electronics presence and a long insurance history. Each of those brings a distinct problem.
Manufacturing is the backbone. Vehicle assembly and its supplier base, wire and cable, metal forming, plastics, machining and industrial equipment operate across Fort Wayne, New Haven and the surrounding counties. The recurring technical problem is the same one we see across the industrial Midwest: the office network and the production network grew into each other. An estimator's laptop, a shipping station and a machine controller running an operating system that has not received a patch in a decade all sit on the same flat network. One phishing click then reaches equipment that cannot be cleaned or rebuilt quickly. We separate those into distinct segments, define narrowly what can cross, monitor the boundary and give production a controlled path to move files without opening a hole. The day-to-day work is delivered through our remote support service.
Defense electronics is Fort Wayne's less-publicized specialty, and its supply chain reaches deep into local machine shops, electronics assemblers, engineering firms and service providers. If you sell into that chain, your customers are pushing cybersecurity requirements down to you: controlled unclassified information handling, documented access control, MFA, encryption at rest and in transit, logging with retention, and evidence you can show during an assessment. The capability is usually not the problem. The documentation is. We implement the controls and produce the written evidence alongside them.
Insurance and financial services form the third pillar, with a long-established presence downtown and across the metro. Carriers, agencies, third-party administrators, claims operations and the accounting and law firms serving them hold policyholder and health data under specific handling expectations. Their day-to-day risk is email fraud aimed at payments and claims, and the fix is enforced MFA, conditional access, published and enforced DMARC records, mailbox rule alerting and a written callback rule. That is standard in our security service.
Healthcare, logistics and the professional and nonprofit community around downtown and the Electric Works campus fill out the picture. Most of these organizations run lean, with one internal generalist or nobody at all, and they are carrying obligations designed for larger firms. Our managed IT plan gives them monitoring, patching, security, backup and a help desk for one flat monthly cost per user, with named engineers rather than a ticket queue.
An unpatchable controller on an isolated segment is manageable. The same controller on your office network is a serious liability.
How It Works
A free remote assessment of servers, network segmentation, endpoints, Microsoft 365 and backups across office and plant.
Urgent, scheduled and fine, with segmentation and customer security requirements called out specifically.
Agents deployed, network segmented, security baseline applied, documentation produced and restores performed and recorded.
A recurring leadership review of incidents, prevented problems, aging equipment and the coming year's budget.
Arizona stays on Mountain Standard Time year-round, so Fort Wayne is two hours ahead in winter and three in summer. Work that has to happen after the office closes lands in our normal day.
Isolation. Those systems go onto their own VLAN with narrow rules about what may reach them, no direct internet access where possible, and monitoring on the boundary. That is the accepted control when the equipment builder will not certify an updated operating system, and it is far cheaper than replacing working machines.
Yes. We implement the technical controls their requirements call for: access control, MFA, encryption, logging with retention, patching and media handling. We also produce the written documentation that assessments look at. We help you prepare; we do not issue certifications, and you should be wary of any provider who claims otherwise.
The network, segmentation, servers, monitoring, office systems and security are all remote work regardless of who does them. Machine interfaces stay with the equipment vendor, and for physical jobs like cabling or hardware swaps we arrange a vetted local partner with one of our engineers on the call.
Usually alongside them rather than instead. They keep the hands-on and business-specific work, and we take monitoring, security, patching, documentation, escalation and after-hours coverage. It gives your person a team to escalate to and removes the key-person risk of one individual holding everything.
We monitor the servers, database performance and connectivity those systems depend on, keep them patched within your change windows, and test restores so a failure is a recovery rather than a crisis. Application-level issues are worked with your software vendor, with our log evidence already in hand.
Flat monthly per-user pricing, no long-term contract required, and you own your hardware and licenses outright. The Deep Dive assessment is free and the report is yours whether or not you engage us.
